Police seeking tips on 1974 Rosedale cold case homicide

ROSEDALE, MD—Police are seeking tips on a nearly 50-year-old cold case in the Rosedale area.

On the afternoon of December 28, 1974, a Baltimore County Police officer was stopped by three children who said that they had been looking for turtles and found a body floating in the water. The officer was directed to the area of Philadelphia Avenue under the I-695 overpass in Rosedale (21237). There the officer found a woman’s body lying face down in the water.



The woman would later be identified as Mary Johnson. An autopsy determined she had been strangled. Witnesses described seeing Mary Johnson in the 700-block of S. Broadway in Baltimore City the night before her body was found. Mary was 44 years old when she was murdered.
