BCPS new middle school to be named Northeast or Nottingham; survey opens today

TOWSON, MD – First, Baltimore County Public Schools asked for ideas about what to name Baltimore County’s newest middle school, a $116.75 million facility on King Avenue in Rosedale with enough room for 1,410 seats when it opens to students in August 2024.

So, earlier this month, the voters spoke, all 3,562 of them. After their ballots were counted and the results tallied, the preferred choices came down to two favorites: The new school should be named either Northeast Middle School or Nottingham Middle School.

Which will it be? A new survey opens today, November 28, to allow residents, BCPS staff, students, and parents to cast a ballot for one name or the other. This survey to determine the top vote-getter will be open through Tuesday, December 12, and may be accessed online here.

Once a winner has been chosen, the name will be reviewed by BCPS leadership and submitted to the Board of Education of Baltimore County for final approval by January 23, 2024, as stipulated by Board of Education Policy and Rule 7520 regarding the naming of a new school.

The survey opens today.
