BOOM ALERT: APG to conduct ‘large caliber’ firing tests this week

ABERDEEN, MD—Loud noise alert!

Aberdeen Proving Ground officials say the base has firing operations scheduled for the week of October 30, 2023.

APG has firing operations scheduled Monday, October 30 – Friday, November 3 from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

There will be large caliber firing in both the Aberdeen and Edgewood areas this week.  With forecasted cooler weather this week, noise will propagate off the installation.

Military weapons, watercraft, and/or aircraft will be visible during daytime and nighttime hours. Residents may hear weapons firing and see flashes or light visible off post from illumination devices. APG officials say these operations are not hazardous to residents in the surrounding communities and are integral to ensuring continued readiness of service members.

Officials at APG try to mitigate instances when training or testing becomes problematic to residents off the installation. To minimize the impact to neighbors, APG monitors the weather and the noise readings continuously throughout each day.

If anyone in the surrounding communities is concerned about testing at Aberdeen Proving Ground, they are encouraged to contact the installation at 410-278-4091.
