CARNEY, MD—A student at a Carney middle school was assaulted by a parent on Thursday morning.
Pine Grove Middle School principal Deborah Magness sent out a communication to parents stating that a parent had physically assaulted a student in a hallway outside the school’s office.
A staff member and a School Resource Officer de-escalated the situation and the student went to the school nurse.
“We are deeply disappointed by this parent’s behavior,” Magness wrote. “It is important to note that our focus is on providing a safe and orderly environment that is conducive to learning. Any type of threat to a student or staff member is taken seriously and will not be tolerated. Disturbing activities at school and threatening students or staff members is prohibited by Maryland law and subjects violators to a fine and/or imprisonment.”
Several students reportedly witnessed the incident, which is under investigation.
