Baltimore County detectives continue to search for suspects in 1970s homicide

TOWSON, MD—The search continues for the person responsible for the homicide of Margaret Fetterolf, who for forty-five years was known as “Woodlawn Jane Doe.”

On September 12, 1976, Baltimore County detectives located the body of a young woman in the 5600-block of Dogwood Road, near the Lorraine Park Cemetery in Woodlawn. The woman had been strangled and sexually assaulted.

Additional DNA testing was conducted in 2021 with assistance from The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and Bode Technology. The results from that testing helped to identify “Woodlawn Jane Doe.”

Authorities now know that Margaret Fetterolf, who lived in Alexandria, Virginia, was 16 years old when she was killed. Family members say she went missing in 1975. While detectives now know Margaret’s identity, the search for those responsible for her murder continues.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Baltimore County detectives at 410-887-3943. Information may also be provided through Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
