BALTIMORE, MD—The Maryland State Highway Administration and Maryland State Police have scheduled two early morning temporary traffic total traffic stops on all lanes in both directions of I-83 (Baltimore-Harrisburg Expressway) on Sunday, August 20 in Parkton.
The traffic delays will allow a telecommunications utility company (Xfinity/Comcast) to safely drag a new transmission cable across all lanes of I-83 at the Downes Road bridge over I-83. The two traffic stops on southbound and northbound I-83 may take place at any time Sunday 2 a.m.-6 a.m. and each traffic stop will last up to 15 minutes at a time.
Drivers are asked to plan for extra travel time, stay alert, stay focused, look ahead for traffic slowdowns on I-83 between Exit 36, MD 439 (Old York Road) and Exit 33, MD 45 (York Road) and follow directions of MSP troopers and traffic control personnel deployed along this section of I-83.
In case of inclement weather, the utility work and traffic stops will take place on a later date.
