JOPPA, MD—A Saturday evening house fire in Joppa left one firefighter injured.
The fire was reported at just before 5 p.m. on July 29 in the 1600-block of Riverwood Circle.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal reports that the occupant was home when he heard a loud ‘boom’ sound. He later discovered heavy smoke within his attic. He called 9-1-1 and exited the home.
The fire was contained to the attic with extensive smoke, water, and related fire damage to the first and second floor. The two adult occupants are being assisted by friends and family.
One firefighter with the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company was injured and transported to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center.
He is currently listed in stable condition.
