BALTIMORE, MD—The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Thursday in the Baltimore area. The advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on July 27, 2023.
Maximum heat index values in the advisory area are expected to be 105-109 degrees. Outside of the advisory area, it will still be quite hot.
Heat and humidity will increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those outdoors.
Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
When possible strenuous activities should be rescheduled to early morning or evening. Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing is recommended. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
