BALTIMORE, MD—The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for Friday in the Baltimore area. A Heat Advisory has already been issued for Thursday.
For Thursday’s Heat Advisory, heat index values of around 105 degrees are expected. For the Excessive Heat Watch on Friday, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values of up to 110 degrees are possible.
The Heat Advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT on Thursday. The Excessive Heat Watch will be in effect from Friday morning through Friday evening.
Forecasters say extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
Residents should monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates, and be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air- conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Officials say young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
