Flood Watch issued for Sunday in Baltimore area

BALTIMORE, MD—The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the Baltimore area.

The watch will be in effect from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2023.

Forecasters say excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

Slow moving thunderstorms capable of producing very heavy rainfall are expected across the watch area from Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening.

A widespread 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is expected across the watch area, with isolated totals in excess of 4 inches possible. This heavy rainfall may lead to rapid rises of water on creeks, streams, urban and poor drainage areas, and in other flood-prone locations.

Residents should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
