Driver smashes through Essex gas station in attempted ATM theft

ESSEX, MD—A driver smashed into an Essex gas station overnight in an attempt to steal an ATM.

At around 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, officers responded to the Exxon station located in the 100-block of Back River Neck Road (21221) for a reported robbery.



Once on scene, authorities discovered that the suspects had driven a vehicle into the building in order to gain access. After failing to steal the ATM, the suspects instead stole cash and property before fleeing the scene.

There were no reported injuries. The Baltimore County Police Department is actively investigating this incident.
