WHITE MARSH, MD—An informational public meeting will be held later this month to discuss community concerns over a previously-announced potential new crematorium in White Marsh.

The Maryland Department of the Environment has announced that the meeting, which will be held on behalf of Evans Funeral Chapel (the applicant), will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company.

At the meeting, the permit application, the permit process, and opportunities for public participation will be discussed.

Last month, the White Marsh-Cowenton Community Association created an online petition opposing the plan to open a crematorium on the property located at 11543 Philadelphia Road, citing environmental and safety concerns.

The organization cited studies showing that crematoriums emit gases and volatile organic compounds including carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, mercury, hydrocarbons and particulate matter/fine dust.

White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company is located at 10331 Philadelphia Road in White Marsh (21162).
