TOWSON, MD—Baltimore County Board of Education Chair Jane Lichter and Baltimore County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams released the following statement on Thursday in response to County Executive Johnny Olszewski’s recommended Fiscal Year 2024 Operating Budget:
“We greatly appreciate the County Executive’s ongoing commitment to Baltimore County Public Schools. His recommended budget nearly equals the Board of Education’s requested budget and is $71 million over Maintenance of Effort. Our county leaders understand that building a great school system is a crucial part of attracting and retaining business to our county and securing our community’s future as a great place to live and work. We know that our community will receive a strong return on the investment it makes in our students.
“We urge the County Council to support the County Executive’s recommendation and provide the funding we need to ensure that we serve students well, provide enhanced compensation for staff, and improve the educational outcomes for all BCPS students.
“We look forward to working with the council members in the coming weeks to discuss how our operating budget will continue to meet the unique needs of each of our students. Our children are counting on us to provide the education, resources, and staffing they need for success in school and in life.”
