OWINGS MILLS, MD—The Office of the State Fire Marshal and several other agencies are asking for assistance in the ongoing investigation of the massive, 8-alarm wildfire that consumed nearly 700 acres around Soldiers Delight Natural Environmental Area on Tuesday and into Wednesday.
A joint investigation between the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Maryland State Forest Service, Department of Natural Resources, Baltimore County Police Department Fire Investigation Division, and the Baltimore Environmental Police continues. Investigators are asking anyone that was in the area of the serpentine trail of Soldiers Delight Overlook between 2:30-3:30 p.m. to call them.
Investigators are also looking for anyone that may have been on the serpentine trail behind the visitor center on Sunday afternoon.
Dozens of families were evacuated after the eight-alarm fire, which started after 3 p.m. on Tuesday in the 5100-block of Deer Park Road of the Soldiers Delight Natural Environment Area. The wildfire drew over 200 personnel — the largest response in the county since a major fire at a propane facility in the 1970s, according to Baltimore County Fire Department.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Office of the State Fire Marshals at 410-386-3050.
