NWS: North Carolina wildfire producing smoke smell in Baltimore area

BALTIMORE, MD—If you smell smoke in the air this afternoon, you’re not alone.

The National Weather Service says a wildfire raging in eastern North Carolina was producing a smoky odor in the Baltimore area on Monday.

A huge wildfire has burned over 5,200 acres in northeastern North Carolina and has led to the smell of smoke wafting over a large portion of the Mid-Atlantic.

Forecasters say southerly winds are bringing the smoke northward.

Smoke should clear out from west to east on Monday evening with winds shifting to the northwest.
