Police: 6 people killed in fatal I-695 crash after driver entered construction zone

WOODLAWN, MD—Maryland State Police have released additional information on Wednesday afternoon’s fatal crash that occurred on I-695 in Baltimore County.

Emergency personnel pronounced six people dead at the scene. Identities of the deceased are pending next of kin notification.



Authorities say the driver of a grey Acura was taken to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for medical treatment. The identity of the driver is not known at this time.

At around 12:45 p.m. o March 22, 2023, troopers responded to a report of a pedestrian crash in a work zone on the inner loop of I-695 at Security Boulevard. According to a preliminary investigation and for reasons unknown at this time, the Acura entered the work zone traveling in between temporary jersey walls, striking multiple construction workers before flipping over.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.  Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration are on scene assisting with detours and road closures.

Motorists are urged to plan for alternate routes as extended road and lane closures continue.
