National nonprofit Petco Love invests in Pets on Wheels

NOTTINGHAM, MD—Pets on Wheels on Tuesday announced that it has received an investment of $7,500 from Petco Love as part of its Helping Heroes initiative. The grant supports the impact that service, therapy and working pet heroes bring to their communities. Pets on Wheels volunteer therapy pet teams provided more than 7,400 hours of therapy pet visits in 2022, many of them to veterans and seniors.

“We are incredibly honored to be recognized for our work by Petco Love,” said Gina Kazimir, Pets on Wheels Executive Director. “Every day our therapy pets make a difference, and this recognition means so much. We receive no insurance or government funds, so Petco Love truly is helping us continue to bring comfort and share love. We work with Petco in Columbia, Maryland to screen new volunteer teams, and this funding will go a long way toward making our mission possible.”

Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets. Petco Love recently invested nearly $1 million to support “Helping Heroes,” and Pets on Wheels is proud to be one of the organizations recognized. Petco Love’s Helping Heroes initiative focuses on organizations that take pets from shelters and transform them into heroes to assist people in need, primarily our nation’s veterans.

The initiative also bolsters efforts to train and support animals who dedicate their lives to saving and improving the lives of others. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested $330 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts.
