Maryland flag lowered to half-staff on Monday to mark Civil Rights Heroes Day

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Wes Moore has ordered the Maryland flag to be lowered to half-staff on Monday, February 20, 2023.

The flag is being lowered to commemorate Civil Rights Heroes day.

In 2021, then-Governor Larry Hogan issued a proclamation recognizing February 20, the anniversary of Frederick Douglass’ death, as Civil Rights Heroes Day for the first time in Maryland history.

“Our nation’s civil rights leaders’ legacies transcend race, nationality, and religion to inspire action and promote equality all over the world,” said Governor Wes Moore. “We will continue to lead in honor of their memory and for the future of all Marylanders, as we seek to form a more perfect union both in our state and across the nation.”

The Maryland flag will be returned to full-staff at sunset on Monday.
