Perry Hall High School senior earns statewide Eagle Scout award

NOTTINGHAM, MD—Zander Hoffman, a senior at Perry Hall High School, has earned the Maryland Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (MDSAR) 2022 Eagle Scout award.

Hoffman will represent Maryland in the Arthur M. & Berdena King Eagle Scout Award contest, which awards $20,000 in scholarships.

Hoffman is an Eagle Scout at Troop 355 (based at St. Clare’s Catholic Church in Essex), and he has earned 72 merit badges (51 more than required for an Eagle Scout). For his Eagle project, he repainted the entire St. Clare’s Catholic Church parking lot in May 2019.

MDSAR will present Hoffman with a trophy and cash award at its annual George Washington Birthday Luncheon on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Eagle’s Nest Country Club.

In a letter to Hoffman, Jon Streett, chairman of the MDSAR Eagle Committee, wrote, “As an Eagle Scout, you have promoted Scouting’s finest tradition of duty to God and Country, duty to others, and duty to self. As a young patriot, you have promoted the ideals of our Founding Fathers. The SAR Eagle Scout Trophy honors you as a distinguished scout and patriot. We share your family’s pride in your accomplishments and wish you every success in our national competition.”

At Perry Hall High School, Hoffman is on the robotics team and plays trumpet in the concert band.

In the community, Hoffman is the vice president of the Children of the War of 1812 Society in Maryland; a member of Venturing Crew #726, sponsored by Maryland Waterways and the Back River Restoration Society; and a member of the John Eager Howard Chapter of MDSAR. He also works at the Boy Scout Shop in Baltimore and is the junior assistant scoutmaster for his troop.
