Overnight transformer fires knock out power in Carney

CARNEY, MD—Multiple transformer explosions knocked out power to some local residents overnight.

At around 4 a.m. on Monday, transformer fires broke out at the BGE station along Northwind Road in Carney.

Witnesses reported being awakened by three or four loud booms, then seeing several fire trucks and BGE vehicles arrive at the scene.

Power was knocked out to several neighborhoods in Carney as well as in the Seven Courts community.  Most outages have since been restored.

There has been no word from BGE or the Baltimore County Fire Department as to what caused the explosions.
