Nottingham man lands winning $50,000 Maryland Lottery scratch-off

NOTTINGHAM, MD—A Nottingham man has scored a big win!

Scott Murphy has won some money over the years playing scratch-offs but was shocked to see his $50,000 win in the Holiday Ca$h game. When he went to scan his instant ticket to check for a prize, the 55-year-old received a pleasant message.

“It said, ‘Take to the Lottery’ so I thought I won $1,000,” Scott said. “Then, I checked it for myself (by scratching off the ticket) and saw it was $50,000.”

The Federal Reserve employee said he plans to invest his prize. Murphy is a loyal scratch-off player and explained that he likes the odds of playing a scratch-off compared to other games.

“You have a better chance of winning with the scratch-offs. Mega Millions and Powerball have a nicer payout but the odds of winning are small,” he said.

Scott purchased the instant ticket at the 7-Eleven located at 8801 Honeygo Boulevard.  Scott added that he likes the store and appreciates the clerk who often helps him with his games.

“I am going to stop by and give a prize to the clerk,” Scott added.
