Harford County shop sells winning $1 million Mega Millions ticket, jackpot rolls to $940 million

BALTIMORE, MD—A lucky Maryland Mega Millions player has a million reasons to smile.  Maryland Lottery officials say a High’s store in White Hall sold a winning $1 million ticket for the Tuesday, January 3 Mega Millions drawing.

Players in Maryland, Texas, and Virginia matched five of the winning numbers in the drawing to capture $1 million second-tier prizes. No one won the Mega Millions jackpot, which rolled to an estimated annuity value of $940 million for the Friday, January 6 drawing with an estimated cash option of $483.5 million. The jackpot is the fourth-largest in the game’s history and the sixth-largest in U.S. lottery history.

Maryland’s $1 million winning Mega Millions ticket carries the numbers 25, 29, 33, 41 and 44. The Mega Ball number was 18 and the optional Megaplier was 4. Lottery officials encourage winners to sign the backs of their tickets immediately and keep them in a safe location until they claim their prizes.

This is Maryland’s first $1 million winning Mega Millions ticket sold in 2023. The state had four $1 million Mega Millions winners in 2022, three in 2021, two in 2020, two in 2019, three in 2018 and one in 2017.

The Harford County retailer, which is located at 4101 Norrisville Road in White Hall, will receive a $2,500 bonus for selling the ticket.

Nationally, 2,904,737 tickets were winners in the January 3 drawing, with 64,809 of those tickets sold in Maryland. The 7,928 Marylanders who paid the extra $1 to add Megaplier to the $2 ticket for the drawing saw their prizes quadruple.

Winners get 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes.

Mega Millions tickets are sold in 47 states and jurisdictions.
