NOTTINGHAM, MD—In anticipation of two projects to alleviate middle school overcrowding, Baltimore County Public Schools will begin a middle school boundary study process.
The opening of a new northeast middle school located on King Avenue is anticipated in September 2024 and the renovation and expansion of Pine Grove Middle School is expected to be completed by December 2024.
Schools participating in the boundary study include Cockeysville, Dumbarton, Golden Ring, Loch Raven Academy, Middle River, New Northeast, Parkville, Perry Hall, Pine Grove, Ridgely, and Stemmers Run middle schools.
Officials say the boundary study aims to establish an attendance area for the new Northeast Area Middle School, expand the attendance area for Pine Grove Middle School and its addition, and provide capacity relief to participating Central and Northeast Area middle schools.
Between January and April 2023, the committee will meet five times and host two public information sessions in March 2023 to share the group’s work, talk with community members, and gather information. In May and June 2023, the Board of Education will consider and take action on the committee’s recommendation, including holding a public hearing.
The first meeting will be held on Thursday, January 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Parkville High School cafeteria. This meeting will be open to the public to observe in person or via livestream.
