CARNEY, MD—Two big winners claimed their Maryland Lottery prizes this week.
$50,000 scratch-off winner
A lucky Parkville woman came into Maryland Lottery headquarters crying tears of joy as she claimed the $50,000 top prize on the FAMILY FEUD® scratch-off.
The 55-year-old said she is a loyal scratch-off player, purchasing $20 worth of scratch-offs each week. She added that she has been on a hot streak with small wins of $25 and $200 within the past month and just knew she was not finished winning.
Her story began when the Amazon employee was driving and braked at stop sign. While stopped, she had what she described as either a “vision or premonition” that she would win a large prize with the number “5.”
The 55-year-old visited J Convenience in Carney to buy a game with a “5.” The winner reports that her lucky numbers are 1, 4, 7 and 11 and she usually chooses scratch-offs in the self-serve vending machine based on those four numbers. She decided to switch it up and choose games by random numbers, which is how she selected the $5 FAMILY FEUD game.
When the Baltimore County resident scanned the instant ticket’s prize check area, she saw she won the top prize. Her husband wanted to scratch off the game to confirm the win.
“My husband always says to me, ‘I’m glad you enjoy playing but it won’t amount to anything,’ He is eating crow now,” she said.
She and her husband already had a Las Vegas vacation planned and now she will have more cash to spend on that trip, the winner said. However, she wants to save most of her prize.
“I am going to be careful with it and put it in the bank,” she explained.
Her lucky Lottery retailer, J Convenience located at 8765 Satyr Hill Road, will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
$28,449 FAST PLAY winner
A Maryland Lottery enthusiast from Parkville picked up a $28,449 win on the FAST PLAY progressive jackpot game Gold Fish® when she bought a $2 ticket on Nov. 18. She plans to keep on playing because she keeps on winning.
The 62-year-old daily player says she has won $1,200 playing Multi-Match and $500 five or six times on scratch-offs, as well as single- and double-digit prizes, which she called “play money.”
With this $28,449 FAST PLAY prize, she plans to pay some medical bills and “spend a little on my teeth.” In addition, a celebration party is in the works because “everyone at home found out!”
Also having reason to celebrate is J Convenience, where our winner purchased the hot FAST PLAY ticket. The store, at 8765 Satyr Hill Road in Carney, picks up a bonus of $284.49, equal to 1% of the prize.
