Attorney General Frosh files motion to release report on child sexual abuse investigation in Archdiocese of Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MD—Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh on Thursday filed a motion to release the office’s report of its investigation of child sexual abuse in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

In seeking approval from the Circuit Court of Baltimore City to release the 463-page report to the public, the motion states:

“For decades, survivors reported sexual abuse perpetrated by Catholic priests and for decades the Church covered up the abuse rather than holding the abusers accountable and protecting its congregations. The Archdiocese of Baltimore was no exception.”

In 2019, Attorney General Frosh launched a criminal investigation of child sexual abuse perpetrated by priests and other employees of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Hundreds of thousands of documents dating back to the 1940s were produced in response to grand jury subpoenas sought by the Attorney General.

As part of its investigation, the Office of the Attorney General created an email address ([email protected]) and telephone hotline (410-576-6312) for persons to report information about child sexual abuse. Over 300 hundred people contacted the office, and Office of the Attorney General investigators reached out and interviewed hundreds of victims and witnesses.

The Office of Attorney General has concluded its investigation and finalized its report. Thursday’s motion seeks permission to release the report to the public.
