Parkville High student arrested after bringing loaded gun to school

UPDATE: The following is a message to the community from the Parkville High School principal:

Dear Parents and Families of Parkville High School

I wanted to make you aware of an incident that happened this morning. School administration was notified of a possible weapon in the building. We immediately activated a lockdown and contacted our School Resource Officer (SRO) who contacted BCoPD for additional assistance with investigating this incident. The officers located the student and retrieved a gun. The student was detained by BCoPD. Possession of weapons is a serious offense and will not be tolerated at Parkville HS. We will take appropriate disciplinary action as outlined in the Student Handbook and Policy.

As with this case, it is important for all of us – student and parents alike – to inform school staff or police any time you or your child sees, hears, or reads anything that is suspicious or that may pose a threat to the school or its students. We all have a role to play in ensuring that our school remains a safe and secure learning environment for our children. I also ask that you speak with your child(ren) and remind them that they cannot bring weapons of any kind to school. Students who are found to be in possession of a weapon will face serious school and legal consequences.

Thank you for your continued support of your student and of Parkville HS.
