TOWSON, MD—A Baltimore County Fire Department probationary firefighter was injured on Tuesday in an accident during a training exercise at the Fire-Rescue Academy in Sparrows Point.
The probationary firefighter, a 30-year-old woman, was transported by ground to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The incident occurred at around noon during a rooftop ventilation exercise. This exercise requires fire personnel to ascend a ladder to a roof and place another ladder in its proper position on the roof. The firefighter lost her footing while descending the ladder and fell 15 feet to the ground.
The probationary firefighter was taking advantage of additional training at the Academy.
She was wearing full personal protective equipment (PPE) at the time and was supervised by two fire instructors.
