ROSEDALE, MD—Ten senior residents, ranging from 62 to 85 years old, of Enterprise Community Development’s Park View at Rosedale in Baltimore County this week received program certificates marking their graduation from a five-week Computer Essentials course organized by the Baltimore County Department of Aging.
The course, which covered the basics of using a personal computer, safely navigating the internet, and sending and receiving email, provides older adults over the age of 60 with a foundation for using a computer and the internet to enrich their lives.
“Don’t let anyone tell you that we can’t do anything, because here we are,” said graduate and second-year resident Joconda Barnes.
Laura Riley, Baltimore County Director of the Department of Aging, was on-site and applauded the graduates saying the program “expands the capacity of older adults throughout the county” and that the participants “understood the opportunity to increase their comfort level and expand the possibilities.” Riley hopes the graduates will be “digital inclusion ambassadors” and thanked Enterprise Community Development for “bringing tools to the community to empower and engage the residents.”
