County Council candidate calls for tabling pay increases for Baltimore County elected officials

NOTTINGHAM, MD—Dr. Tony Campbell, Republican nominee for the 6th Councilmanic District is calling for a tabling of any pay increases for Baltimore County officials, the County Executive, and the County Council until new members are sworn in later this year.

“Politicians giving themselves a raise is never a good thing. Politicians who do it in the middle of a recession, when families are struggling with record inflation at the grocery store, flaunts power and privilege which is against the very principles of public service,” said Dr. Campbell

Campbell continues, “Part of ‘Fixing Baltimore County’ is making sure we have checks and balances in County Government. I agree with Council Chairman Julian Jones that there should be a different mechanism to set compensation for top officials and Council members.

At the very least, the proposal should be tabled until the new Council is sworn in. There will be two new Council members and they should have a say in whether they think the pay raises are warranted at this time.”

Dr. Campbell states, “If I am elected, I will vote NO on any pay increase.”
