Joppa house fire damage estimated at $200,000

JOPPA, MD—A house fire that broke out in Joppa on Tuesday did an estimated $200,000 in damage, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

The fire was reported at around 6:15 p.m. in the 2000-block of Mountain Road.  Units arrived to find smoke and fire showing from the dwelling.



The Fire Marshal’s office states that the blaze caused $150,000 in damage to the structure of the home and another $50,000 in damage to the contents.

The fire began in the kitchen and it took approximately 25 minutes for 30 firefighters to bring the blaze under control.  Units responded from the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company, Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company, White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company, and other departments.

Officials say it is unknown whether the home had smoke alarms.
