Ten dogs rescued from Towson house fire

TOWSON, MD—Firefighters rescued several dogs, including six puppies, from a one-alarm house fire in Towson’s Rodgers Forge area on Wednesday.

Firefighters treated the animals, which had been exposed to heat and smoke, using a special oxygen delivery device designed for pets. The dogs — a female Pointer and her puppies — were turned over to Baltimore County Animal Services’ shelter in Baldwin because the house was damaged and the owner hospitalized. All seven dogs are expected to survive.

Three additional adult dogs, also Pointers, were subsequently discovered in the basement by fire investigators and turned over to Animal Services. They also are expected to survive.

Fire investigators have ruled that the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical failure in the dining room area.

Crews were dispatched at around 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday to a fire in a middle-of-group rowhome in the 100-block of Brandon Road (21212). The first-arriving engine found smoke showing. Firefighters found extremely cluttered conditions inside and located a fire in the dining room area. Firefighters found the dogs loose in the house.

The fire was called under control at 1:20 p.m.

Police, who arrived on scene found a man (the homeowner) on the front porch of the residence. He suffered non life-threatening injuries and was transported by EMS personnel to a local hospital.
