BCPS celebrates its spring athletics 2022 state champions, runners-up

TOWSON, MD—Baltimore County Public Schools officials are celebrating the school system’s high school athletic teams and student-athletes recognized at the state level during the 2022 spring season.

The following student-athletes or teams and their school and coaches were honored:

State Champions:

  • Class 1A Girls Track & Field – Western School of Technology

  • Class 2A Boys 3200m– Kaleb Berhanu – Pikesville High School

  • Class 2A Girls 4×800 – Hereford High School
    Coach Amanda Sanacore
  • Class 3A Girls Triple Jump – Denisha McLaurin – Woodlawn High School
    Coach Joey Young
  • Class 4A Boys High Jump– Gavin Shaffer – Dulaney High School
    Coach Emily Kachik
  • Class 4A Boys Discus & Shotput– Chimdy Onoh – Dundalk High School

“Congratulations to all of our hardworking spring season student-athletes,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams. “We are all grateful to their coaches, trainers, physical education teachers and families for providing incredible support for our dedicated student-athletes and our schools.”

“I am so proud of our amazing BCPS student-athletes and coaches for everything they accomplished during the spring season,” said Michael Sye, BCPS director of athletics. “Throughout the 2021-2022 school year, our student-athletes and teams have demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship and resilience while competing at a high level.”
