NOTTINGHAM, MD—What better way to celebrate a wedding anniversary than with a $50,000 Powerball win? Such was the gift Lady Luck recently gave to a Nottingham couple married for more than three decades.
The 67-year-old husband bought the lucky ticket on April 25 while visiting Weis Markets located at 4126 East Joppa Road (21236). He frequently stops in at the grocery to play his favorite Maryland Lottery games. The Baltimore County resident bought three tickets for the April 25 drawing while there, one of which was a one-draw quick pick. Later that evening, he learned that he had matched four numbers and the Powerball for a $50,000 prize.
“I was very shocked,” the lucky winner said.
He chose to share the news only with his wife and his accountant. When asked of his plans for his win, the loyal player told Maryland Lottery officials that he is very happy to celebrate 33 years of marriage and put a new deck on the house.
Players have plenty of time to get tickets for the next Powerball drawing. The Powerball jackpot is back on a roll and has reached an estimated $83 million for the Saturday, May 14 drawing. The estimated cash option is $47.6 million (before taxes).
