SPRING FORWARD: Daylight Saving Time 2022 begins on Sunday morning

NOTTINGHAM, MD—It’s time to spring forward.

Daylight Saving Time begins on March 13, 2022 at 2:00 a.m. At this time, clocks “spring forward” one hour, giving us more daylight on warm summer evenings (and we also lose an hour of sleep on Saturday night).

Daylight Saving Time (DST) in most of the United States starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November.

  • Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at 2:00 a.m. On Saturday night, clocks will be set forward one hour (i.e., losing one hour) to “spring forward.”
  • Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at 2:00 a.m. On that Saturday night, clocks will be set back one hour (i.e., gaining one hour) to “fall back.”

Arizona is currently the only state in the U.S. that stays on “standard time” all year long, but a bill moving through the Maryland General Assembly could end the twice-annual time change and make Daylight Saving Time permanent.

The current daylight saving period was established with the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which went into effect in 2007.
