TOWSON, MD—Police say six juveniles have been arrested following a massive Saturday evening disturbance in Towson.
At around 5 p.m., officers re4sponded to Towson Town Center for reports of several disturbances.
When police arrived, they found a large group of juveniles inside the mall. As officers dispersed the group, two Baltimore County police officers suffered minor injuries and a security guard was assaulted.
Witnesses told NottinghamMD.com that over 200 juveniles were involved in the disturbances, which quickly spread to the Towson Circle and to the Cinemark theater.
A total of six juveniles were arrested.
“We expect everyone, including our young people, to behave appropriately in our communities,” said Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski on Sunday morning. “I am working closely with the police department and Towson Town Center management to understand what happened there last night and to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
“Crime was the top reason why the Loch Raven Starbucks closed last year – confirmed by that company this week,” said Councilman David Marks on Sunday. “Specifically, Starbucks cited problems with nearby hotels and the SWAT presence at the Welcome Inn last fall.”
“I remain committed to hiring and retaining more police officers, although only the County Executive can propose the budget that funds them,” Councilman Marks added. “Education, intervention strategies for struggling youth, and effective prosecution are key – but the visible presence of police is fundamental.”
Police say the juveniles who were arrested on Saturday face charges ranging from disorderly conduct to assault.
