Joppa liquor store sells winning $100,000 Maryland Lottery scratch-off

JOPPA, MD—Moving into a new home can reveal the need for repairs and renovations, which is just what a Bel Air scratch-off player plans to do with his $100,000 Maryland Lottery prize.

The $100,000 Extreme Cash scratch-off delivered its 43rd top prize to a new Harford County homeowner.

“This came at a perfect time,” said the 44-year-old player, who chose the nickname “Money Mike” for the story of his big win. “My family and I just moved into our first new home. This money will help with renovations.”

“Money Mike” said his winning saga began while on his way to the store to buy drinks, paint and other items for his new house. Suddenly, he looked at the wall display of Maryland Lottery scratch offs and thought to himself, “I feel lucky.” His instincts were correct.

He bought his winning instant ticket from Freddie’s Fine Wines in Joppa, finished his errands and went home. Before he started work, “Money Mike” scratched off his instant ticket. He spotted matching 37s, one of them with a $100,000 sitting directly below the number in the game’s play area.

“My wife immediately started crying, and I immediately called my two daughters to let them know about our big win,” said “Money Mike.”

The happy dad plans to use the prize to buy more paint, carpet and furniture for the family’s new home. The rest of the windfall will go into a rainy day fund, he said.

For its role in selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, Freddie’s Fine Wines located at 1411 South Mountain Road in Harford County earns a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
