TOWSON, MD—Cheryl Pasteur, vice chair of the Board of Education of Baltimore County, has announced her resignation from the Board, effective immediately. Pasteur, who represents District 2 and was elected to the Board in 2018, recently announced her candidacy for the House of Delegates seat in District 11A. State law prohibits an individual from serving on the Board of Education while pursuing an elected or appointed office for a political party or the local, state, or federal government.
“I am thankful for my time on the Board of Education and the opportunity to serve the students and staff of BCPS,” said Pasteur. “I have grown tremendously in this role, and I look forward to continuing my work and advocacy on behalf of the children of Baltimore County.” Board Chair Julie Henn thanked Pasteur for her service and praised her tireless advocacy and commitment to Team BCPS.
“Ms. Pasteur’s dedicated service on the Board of Education exemplified her unwavering loyalty and commitment to Baltimore County Public Schools,” said Henn. “With close to four decades of experience as an educator in Baltimore City and Baltimore County, Ms. Pasteur’s knowledge and professional expertise will allow her to serve as an informed voice representing the needs of BCPS in Annapolis. The Board is grateful for Ms. Pasteur’s time and talents, which she shared so generously, and we wish her the very best in her next pursuits.”
“Ms. Pasteur is a fierce advocate for BCPS students, staff, and families, and I am grateful for her service and leadership,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams. “Her deep knowledge of the system and commitment to educational excellence has made a tremendous impact on this school system. I wish her the very best in her future pursuits and know that she will continue to advocate on behalf of our students.”
The Board of Education will share information on the process for filling Pasteur’s seat in the coming weeks.
