NOTTINGHAM, MD—The National Weather Service has issued the first Freeze Watch of the fall for northern Baltimore County and parts of Harford County.

The watch will be in effect from late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

Forecasters say sub-freezing temperatures, as low as 31 degrees, are possible.

Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Residents are encouraged to take steps to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting, outdoor water pipes should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.

Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
