GREENSPRING, MD—Maryland State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that left one person dead on Tuesday afternoon in Baltimore County.
At just before 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, troopers responded to the inner loop of Interstate 695 in the area of Greenspring Avenue for a report of a four-vehicle crash. Authorities say a tractor-trailer crashed into the rear of a Dodge caravan, pushing it off the road and into the jersey wall.
The tractor-trailer then crashed into the rear of a Hyundai Santa Fe and sideswiped a Toyota Avalon. The driver of the Dodge, Paula Jeanne Roberts, 62, of Baltimore, was taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where she later died.
The driver of the Hyundai, a female, was transported to GBMC for treatment of their injuries. The right three lanes of eastbound I-695 were shut down for close to three hours following the crash.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office, which will decide on any potential charges.
