Reisterstown man convicted of first-degree murder in connection with fatal Essex stabbing

ESSEX, MD—A Reisterstown man has been convicted in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred at an Essex bar last year.

Shawn A. Parks, 33, was found guilty of first-degree, premeditated murder by a jury late Monday in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County.

On August 30, 2020, officers with the Baltimore County Police Department responded to the parking lot of the Brewers Landing Bar and Grill on Woodrow Avenue in Essex for a report of a stabbing.

At the scene, police found Roger Paul Walker Jr., 25, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his chest, back, and forearm. His throat had also been slit.

Walker died as a result of the wounds he sustained.

A subsequent investigation revealed that Walker and Parks had been involved in a dispute inside the bar earlier that evening. Witnesses indicated and video surveillance confirmed that when Parks left the bar, he headed in the direction of Walker. Parks then produced a knife and attacked Walker. Both the victim and Parks had been drinking.

State’s Attorney, Scott Shellenberger, has offered his thanks to the Baltimore County Police Department for their work on this case.

The Judge has scheduled sentencing for December 3, 2021.
