TOWSON, MD—For the 25th consecutive year, the Controller’s Office of Baltimore County Public Schools has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
BCPS received this 2021 award for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020.
According to the GFOA, “The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.”
“Congratulations to Pat Fannon, our controller, and his team for doing an outstanding job year after year of communicating with Team BCPS about school system finances,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams. “BCPS takes seriously the trust that the public places in us, and our fiscal and moral responsibility to use our limited resources wisely and transparently.”
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
GFOA is a professional organization of public officials united to enhance and promote the professional management of governmental financial resources by identifying, developing, and advancing fiscal strategies, policies, and practices for the public benefit.
