Maryland Court of Appeals upholds conviction of teen who ran over Officer Caprio

BALTIMORE, MD—Maryland’s second-highest court has upheld the conviction of one of the four teens who ran down and killed Baltimore County Police Officer Amy Caprio in 2018.

Dawnta Anthony Harris was seventeen years old when he was convicted as an adult for running over Officer Caprio as she investigated a report of a burglary on Linwen Way.

Harris’ attorneys had argued that the charge of felony murder by motor vehicle should not be upheld because he was a minor at the time.

In a 47-page ruling (below), the court disagreed and upheld the conviction along with the Harris’ life sentence.

WBAL Radio reports that Harris’ attorneys have not yet indicated whether or not they will appeal the decision to Maryland’s highest court, the Court of Appeals.
