PARKVILLE, MD—A local September 11 memorial has received a piece of steel from the Twin Towers.
On Saturday, Maryland’s 9/11 Rolling Memorial was presented with a piece of steel that came from between the 85th and 89th floors of Tower 1 (North), which was just above the impact zone of American Airlines Flight 11.
The ceremony was held at the Virginia War Memorial.
The steel was escorted from the Henrico Fire House by the Virginia Patriot Guard, the Virginia-based arm of the Patriot Guard Riders national organization.
The piece of steel was gifted to the memorial by the Freedom Flag Foundation of Richmond, a non-profit organization formed to establish the Freedom Flag as a national symbol of remembrance for September 11, 2001 and to support educational efforts of teaching future generations about the tragic events and many lives lost on that date.
Maryland’s 9/11 Rolling Memorial is dedicated to the 69 Marylander’s killed on 9/11/01 and the 162 others perished in the attack. The memorial will be on display at the 2021 Perry Hall Town Fair.
