TOWSON, MD—The Baltimore County Restoring Elder Safety Today (BC-REST) is commemorating the annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day with a seminar for the community. The theme of the seminar is “Stand up and Take Your Power Back.”
In senior apartment buildings, senior centers, and other places where older adults gather, aggressive members may taunt, intimidate, or exclude others. This seminar addresses these issues.
The seminar will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2021. To register, email [email protected] or call 410-887-4200. The featured speaker will be Jacke L. Schroder, LCSW-C.
Schroder holds a dual Master’s degree in Administration and Clinical Social Work from the University of Maryland and has over 30 years of substantive practice experience in the health and human services arena, with deep knowledge of the needs of older adults and disenfranchised families. Jacke is a trained Volunteer Ombudsman with the Baltimore City Health Department’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program.
With expertise in effectively leading complex projects and teams, developing pioneering programs and advocating for justice, Jacke is the Director of SAFE: Stop Abuse of Elders, a program of CHANA. She is a three-time published author and an ordained Maggidah-in the ancient Jewish tradition, a teller of stories about the journey of the soul. Jacke co-facilitates the powerful Finding Your Voice writing and speaking groups at CHANA.
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was launched on June 15, 2006 by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations. The purpose of WEAAD is to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older people by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect.
