NOTTINGHAM, MD—The Maryland Department of Health on Friday reported that the state’s COVID-19 hospitalizations and positivity rate dropped drastically once again over the past week.
“Maryland is reporting over 5.44 million COVID-19 vaccinations as our key health metrics continue to decline, with a significant drop in COVID-19 hospitalizations today,” said Governor Larry Hogan on Friday.

Overall Metrics
As of Friday, May 14, 2021, there have been 455,257 cases of novel coronavirus in Maryland. The state has now conducted 10,050,073 tests, including more than 35,000 tests over the past 24 hours.
The statewide positivity rate stands at 2.60%, a significant decrease from last Friday’s 3.53%.
A total of 8,716 Marylanders have died with COVID-19 and 680 are currently hospitalized – a decrease of 179 hospitalizations since last Friday. A total of 191 ICU beds are currently in use, a decrease of 28 beds since last Friday.
More than 70% of Maryland’s COVID-19 fatalities have been among those over 70 years of age (6,131/8,716).

Thus far, the mortality rate for coronavirus in Maryland remains under 3.50% for residents under 70 years of age.

There have now been 3,409,952 negative COVID-19 test results in Maryland and 10,470 patients have been released from isolation.
Baltimore County has confirmed 64,882 cases and 1,468 deaths with COVID-19 (note: “probable” deaths are not included in these totals).

Governor Hogan this week announced that all indoor and outdoor capacity restrictions will be lifted on Saturday, May 15th. Baltimore County plans to continue to align with the state.
