TOWSON, MD—Baltimore County Public Schools Office of Music and Dance Education will offer two new Virtual Summer Music Camps during the week of July 6-9, 2021.
One camp will focus on the ukulele and will provide students with opportunities to create, respond, perform, and connect to music with emphasis on using a soprano ukulele. Students will develop musicianship skills that include fingerpicking melodies, playing chords to accompany songs, interpreting song lyrics and musical form, and connecting to the history and cultural uses of the ukulele.
The songwriting camp is geared to students looking to learn more about how to use lyric creation, songwriting, music production, and musicianship skills to produce musical works in their own style.
Students will work to create an original musical composition that will be showcased at the end of the week.
Both camps are open to BCPS students, Grades 5-12, who have been enrolled in a music class during the 2020-21 school year. The camps will be led by BCPS music educators and held virtually through Google Meet.
The cost for each camp is $100 and includes a ukulele for ukulele camp participants and an external microphone for songwriting camp participants. Participants in both camps will receive camp t-shirts.
During the week of July 6-9, the ukulele camp will take place from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and the songwriting camp from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Both camp registration and payments will be accepted online only. Anyone needing assistance with the online registration or payment process can contact the Office of Music and Dance Education at 443-809-4024 or email Shane Jensen, specialist in the Office of Music and Dance Education, at [email protected].
