PERRY HALL, MD—Baltimore County Councilman David Marks on Friday provided an update on the replacement of the East Joppa Road bridge in Perry Hall.

“Public Works will begin work the Joppa Road bridge over Honeygo Run which was closed in late January,” said Councilman Marks. “The first order of work will be to remove the deteriorated top portions of the structure. We plan on beginning this operation on Monday, April 19th.”

“Once the removal work is completed, DPW engineers will need to inspect and survey the exposed portions of the bridge abutments that are to be incorporated into the rehabilitated structure,” Councilman Marks added. “During this time there will be no construction activities taking place at the bridge. The information obtained during the inspections and surveys will be used to design and detail the repairs necessary to reconstruct the bridge and open it to traffic. This time lapse is due to the lack of as-built information on the structure and associated unknowns that will be exposed by the removal operations.”

“Originally we estimated about 4 months would be needed to undertake the repairs on this bridge and it is still our intention this work will be completed and the bridge re-opened in mid-summer,” Councilman Marks concluded. “Our schedule, as it now stands, is to have the bridge re-opened in July or about 5 months after the closure began. This schedule is dependent on weather and any unforeseen issues that may arise.”
