NOTTINGHAM, MD—Councilwoman Cathy Bevins and Councilman David Marks on Friday announced that construction will begin this month on the first of two new schools in northeastern Baltimore County.
The 102,000-square foot elementary school will be built at the intersection of Gum Spring Road and Rossville Boulevard (21237), serving 750 students from an area to be determined after a redistricting process.
Funding is in place for a new middle school expected to open in 2024, and land is now identified for a new high school. Overcrowding is worse at the elementary school level as magnet programs and private schools have tended to absorb many older students.
“I have fought very hard for this new Twenty-First Century school which will serve hundreds of students and many neighborhoods throughout eastern Baltimore County,” said Councilwoman Bevins, who represents the area where the school will be located. “Councilman Marks and I have advocated for this project for many years. I thank County Executive Olszewski for his leadership in getting this project moving.”
“Although this school is located in Councilwoman Bevins’ district, it will serve students from the Fifth District as well,” added Councilman David Marks. “I thank Councilwoman Bevins for partnering with me, as well as my colleague Julie Henn from the Board of Education, County Executive (Johnny) Olszewski, and our state legislators.”
