Red Flag Warning issued for Baltimore as possible record warmth expected on Thursday

NOTTINGHAM, MD—The National Weather Service in Baltimore has issued a Red Flag Warning for low humidity and gusty winds on Thursday, as possible record high temperatures for this date are expected as well.

The warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. unil 6 p.m. EST.

Southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph are expected Thursday with gusts up to 30 mph.

Humidity will remain low at 20 to 30 percent.

Record high temperatures for this date are possible on Thursday afternoon as temperatures could exceed 75 degrees.

Critical fire weather conditions are likely to develop Thursday afternoon. All outdoor burning is discouraged, as fires could rapidly spread and become uncontrollable.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Be careful of heat and sparks while operating any equipment, and avoid smoking in wildland areas.

Residents are reminded that open air burning is prohibited before 4 p.m. in Maryland and Virginia.
