Councilman Marks thanks school board for initiating construction of new school

NOTTINGHAM, MD—Baltimore County Councilman David Marks on Wednesday morning thanked the Baltimore County Board of Education for advancing the construction of the new elementary school proposed at Rossville Boulevard in the White Marsh area.

At Tuesday evening’s meeting, the Board approved $48.3 million in construction contracts, allowing the project to proceed. Construction will start this summer, with an expected opening in August 2022.

“I would like to thank the Board of Education for activating this long-anticipation project,” said Councilman Marks. “Specifically, I would like to thank Fifth District Board member Julie Henn for her longtime advocacy of this project, as well as County Executive John Olszewski, Council colleague Cathy Bevins and the state legislators from the Eighth District.”

A delay in state construction funding moved the construction back by two years.  The new school is expected to open in August 2022.

A new northeastern middle school is expected to be built next at King Avenue, and the long-term construction plan includes a recommendation for a new high school.

Overcrowding is most severe at earlier grades, according to Councilman Marks.
